"The Battle of Antietam: The Civil War Drenches America In Blood"

The civil rights era was a time of rebellious actions against discrimination. Some of the most renown leaders were emerged through this ground breaking time. The things that they stood up for have changed the way the civilization is today. There have been many battles fought weather it be in a court room or on a bus, but the one that i will be taking about is the The Battle of Antietam.
The Battle of Antietam which is also knows as The Battle of Sharpsburg. This battle was fought on Wednesday, September 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Antietam Creek, as part of the Maryland Campaign, was the first major battle in the American Civil War. The cause of this battle was because general Robert E. Lee, he was persuaded into going to Maryland. Then Major George B. Mcallen ordered his union troops to attack Lee's union army. McClellan's attacks failed to achieve force, and therefore led him to loosing the battle which was fought through to the next day.

The Battle of Antietam is very important to history. It is mostly important because Lee was able to stop the invasion to the north, even though he was basically outnumbered three to one. It shows how strong the south was at the time. This battle is also important to history because it was the second bloodiest battle in history. Thinking back to all the battles we have already fought, thats a very impressing number.
